From Weir and Johnson Campground  Sucess!

Scrambled up with my friend Josh from the campground. Short, fun scramble. The 360 views are fantastic. From the San Juans to the
La Sals to the Elks you can see it all. Grand Mesa is a very picturesque place.

my own way  Sucess!

from W & J trailhead, I walked trail 716 north past Leon Peak Reservoir. The trail became increasingly faint, and I ended up at largest of Finney Cuts lakes. I headed south (up) from there, up a wooded draw into a sea of rock, where I saw the peak above my right shoulder. Descended the way I should have come up. My first Colorado peak!

No Shortage of Rock!  Sucess!

First off, the ascent is by no means a walk-up, it's a scramble. Second, the trail to reach Leon branches off the main trail just after the creek crossing (often dry) at the corner of Sissy Lake/Leon Peak Reservoir, it is very easy to miss.

Successful summit with Chip and Steph. Great weather, tedious rock-hopping, but overall good experience. Glad to have finally made it up there!

south slopes route  Sucess!

Fun hike, but missed the climber's trail on the ridge on the way up and had to bushwhack up to it. Followed it on the way down to connect to the sissy lake trail. View was pretty good despite the smoke.

With 10855  Sucess!

Lots of mosquitoes, the volcanic rock is an interesting change from the granite mountains in my area. Cool lookout, 4 benchmarks

South Slopes Route  Sucess!

This was my first time up on Grand Mesa after being in Colorado for 22 years. I meandered up through some trees and came to the boulders. A short but tedious scramble brought me to the top. Interesting group of names in the register.

#63  Sucess!

I finally got out to do this very remote county highpoint. We combined it with nearby 10855 and Crag Crest to make a nice tour of Grand Mesa.

Interesting  Sucess!

Route is easy to follow. Surprisingly no trees for most of the route, due to fields of volcanic boulders. Interesting, and very fun.
