Yesterday (4 March 2012) I hiked up Lewis Peak. Afterwards, I happened to discover that there is indeed a trail that leads almost to the summit of Lewis Mountain. It is faint in some places and nonexistent in others, but it made the hike along the ridge top much more pleasant than a 100% bushwhack would have been. The summit of Lewis Mountain was a pleasant surprise, too - a Duncan Knob-like scramble.

Re: Lewis MountainGlad you got out there. For a Shenandoah peak, Lewis has a very remote feel.

Re: Lewis MountainI also climbed Peak 2363, which is just SE of Furnace Mountain. It was a tough bushwhack - much tougher than Austin Mountain. I do not recommend it...
