NE gully
Practically ran past the eye-popping crowds on our way up the trail. Ascended the face on the left from where the JMT begins to drop into LYV. There were some cairns that kinda helped. Approached the NE gully from the right (north) to minimize brush. Shared the summit with a couple other parties - you won't be alone on a Saturday. Great views, of course. Retraced steps to the trail.

Brushy scramble
Did this as a little side trip after setting up camp in LYV. Route was not as well-cairned as I'd read, so there was some very brushy route-finding involved. Some fun scrambling. Great view of Nevada Falls at the top. Lucked out (it barely went) on a quicker descent down the E side to hit the JMT next to the Merced. GPS tracks

From LYV
Overall a fairly easy scramble from the LYV trail near Nevada falls; the only tricky part was in the upper gully, as snow was still lingering there. Got a view of Nevada Falls from the top, and saw three bears as we were descending. The "trail" is fairly easy to find; there are well established cairns about every 100 feet.

Agree, keeping to the climber's right in the gully is easier, less bushwhacking.

Great hike with a tough, fast, & fun meetup club. We were rewarded with excellent views and no other company but us. Due to the drought there were just a few patches of snow & ice but those Jeffries on top were green and still hanging on.
Probably the best approach ever, didn't even care if we got to the summit. Falls are peaking and we left early enough in the morning to avoid the crowds on the Mist trail. Found our solitude steps off the trail out of LYV. Fun day, great views.

One of my favorite granite formationsA bonus peak on the way down from Half Dome. I had been wanting to climb Liberty Cap ever since I saw it's iconic profile across from Nevada Falls.

NE Gully1 year anniversary hike after breaking my ankle the year before.
Hit Sierra Point on the way up before ascending the NE Gully.

Winterish AscentClimbed up from the valley. No snow at all on the way up. Strange winter. Got really warm climbing. It's like summer. Fun summit! Awesome views!
