ADK 46ers and the 46 High Peaks

The 46 High Peaks represent the 'official' list of the 46 peaks over 4,000 feet of the Adirondacks, as compiled by the Adirondack Forty-Sixers.

The list was first compiled in 1925. At the time, they were all thought to be over 4,000 feet. While recent surveys of the peaks have indicated that some of them are under 4,000 feet, the 46ers have decided to keep the original listing.

The majority of the 46 High Peaks have well-established and maintained trails leading to the summit. However there are 20 peaks that are officially trailless. While there are herd paths leading to the summits, it is advised that hikers familiarize themselves with the area first, and carry maps and compass at all times.

The Adirondack Forty-Sixers have been hiking and maintaining trails in the High Peaks since 1925.
In order to join the 46ers, one must hike all 46 peaks on the list, while reporting your progress to the organization by way of letters. Please visit their site if you are interested in joining.

ADK 46

You should make it clear that this is the ADK 46er list and not a list of the higest peaks. As macNaughton is higher than a number of the ADK46 peaks. A little write up on the ADK46 would be nice as well.

You should also make clear that this is a hiker type list and not a mountaineering objective by any means
