Introduction
This rather arbitrarily contrived peak list includes all 7,000 foot and taller peaks located in the northern Lake Tahoe region, off Interstate 80. The area covered in this list runs roughly East / West from the Mt. Rose to Emigrant Gap and North / South from Jackson Meadows Reservoir to the American River. I wanted to develop a list of peaks that could easily be reached with a short drive off I-80 and would include many of the obscure peaks in the region. Climbing difficulty ranges from Class 3 on Castle Peak to an easy class 1 stroll on most others.
There are a total of 56 peaks in the list, 55 of which are named peaks. The only unofficially unnamed peak, “Mt. Lola North”, was added due to it being the county high point of Sierra County.
Let me know if you find any errors or think other peaks in the area would be a worthy addition.
