Above the uppermost valley step looms the northwest face of a massive, nameless summit (2508m according to most maps), which is actually the western foresummit of Maja Jezercë (a.k.a. Jezerca) although some people claim it's the easternmost of the Malisores Peaks – I think “Little Jezerca” would be a fitting name for it.
On this section of the route it is easy to miss the marks and get confused. There are also plenty of cairns off the designated path, which makes you even more confused. But in fact it does not matter whether you follow the marks or the cairns as they soon join anyway. In this photo you can easily spot a cairn on top of the ridge on the left as well as the trail marker in the foreground. The two red dots towards the centre of the image mark the other trail markers, which can be seen if the picture is enlarged.
