Hard to get . . .

. . . a good shot of a chuckwalla (Sauromalus obesus). They usually scamper away pretty quick. Nice job! I've seen them in the Grand Canyon, but not yet in Red Rock.

It was a warmish day, so he was moving relatively slowly. This was the best of about 5 pictures.

I didn't recognize it as a chuckwalla. The ones I've seen in Joshua Tree look a bit different, and were usually hanging out in cracks. Very funny to be cimbing a route and come accross one.

Perfect specimen!

Chuckwalla - member of the Iguana Family. Can reach 16-1/2" long. This is a male; black head
and yellowish or reddish toward rear. Diurnal,
often seen sunning on rocks. Great capture!!!
