Beautiful
Cold and windy on the summit, beautiful high tundra on the final approach. Simple route finding and wonderful views! Must do for anyone who likes to explore around Missoula.

peak number 8 of 35
Nice trail run to the south summit. Barely missed hitting it in under two hours, ended up at 2:05:00. my eighth peak of the 35 bitterroot 9000 summits.
A couple friends of mine had never been up there so we decided to go. Really beautiful this time of year but also really hot. Came up the east ridge this time, which was new for me. The summit was so nice we could have just napped up there for hours! Then we had an epic time with lots of laughs boot skiing down the NE face!
Took the Mill Creek trailhead up to Lantern Ridge starting at 9pm (after work). Met up with two buddies already on the mountain and made camp at about 6000ft.
Left later than intended at about 10am and made our way up the ridge to the northern peak. Did not get to go to the south peak, though I will be back I'm sure.

East Ridge
Awesome hike. We saw a total of six people the entire day - three trail crew memebers on our way up, and three swimmers heading for a late evening dip at Carlton Lake on our way back to the trailhead. It was a real treat to have this area all to ourselves! Spectacular summit views - I was especially impressed by the beautiful lake basin east of the summit.

Great run!
Leah and I ran/hiked to the top on a lazy July afternoon. Took a non-standard route, just for fun, circling around Carlton lake to the northwest. Wonderful day!
Went up in June not really planning on going all the way, just wanted to see how far I could get over the waist deep snow. Made pretty good time and had fairly easy walk up. Soft snow on the way back down was a bit of a challange.

NE ridge from Carlton Lake
2nd time on summit. This time we went the rest of the way to the south (true) summit.
August 2008
Nice on the way up but we were chased off by a thunderstorm. Luckily, we reached summit just in time to enjoy the views before it hit us. By the time we got back to the trail, it was sunny again.
Sunny when we left, snowstorm on the top, sunny by the time we got back.
