Lone Mountain
Along with Kessler and Shaylee, Kimberly and I climbed Lone Mountain near Las Vegas and before beginning the drive home. Without the sunshine, it was a world of gray.

Fun scrambling
Pretty cool having this type of scrambling in a suburban neighborhood. Ascended the south ridge in about 15 min from Alexander, and then looped back around to the base of the SW face and soloed "Training Grounds" route. Descended via the regular trail and ran back to the car via the trail along the eastern side for an outing of just over 1 hour. Very enjoyable.

Good workout
Nice quick easy hike. Generally prefer Cheyenne for quick workouts due to crowds but this has a better trail for guests.

Nice warm-up (or in this case, cool-down)
Did this via the standard route after summitting Black Mountain in the McCulloughs that afternoon - saw the sun's last rays over the city and eastern ranges. Looks like someone cleaned up the garbage and (most of) the graffiti as well. Tried to imagine what the experience must've been like before 215 was put in... it's quite a convenient freeway, but at a cost.

Golden Eagle, Lone, Pinnacle
Only had a half day so I got 3 peaklets. trip report
It's an easy climb and a nice place to bring out-of-towners for a quick peak and beautiful view of the city. It is surrounded by a 2+ mile dirt-packed walk/horse/bike track and an adjacent parks with plenty of parking, restrooms, picnic tables, shelters, etc.

Thanksgiving family hike
Went with my family as a Thanksgiving morning activity. Quick and steep. Took my daughter on my back in her carrier, she fell asleep on the way down. Lots of tantalizing scrambles visible from the path that goes all the way around Lone Mountain.

An hour round trip
Fun little hike. Took the boy with and we were up top in half an hour, even dawdling and taking pics. Took the trail from the end of Vegas Vista Dr.
We're gonna make a regular conditioning hike out of this. It's great for that if you're a local.

Up and down in less than 25 minutes
Great vantage point to view the obscene urban sprawl of Vegas. Lots of people and litter. Headed over to Mount Golden Eagle, which was entirely different.

West side Standard Route
Climbed this after attending the CON EXPO show in Las Vegas. It was nice to get out after eating so much food for the previous two days. Lots of people on the mountain. I met some hikers/climbers as well out for a training hike up and down the mountain. Nice views..

Thanksgiving Day tradition hike with my sister, her husband and their 6 kids, ranging from 12 to 2. The 4 year old hiked the whole thing.

Personally, I'd rate this climb ABO+ on the french system...Grade VI American.
After a multi-day approach and numerous objective hazards, at long last, we arrived at the base of the climb. Upon surveying the peak, it clearly presented numerous challenges of its own. After hauling our port-a-ledge to a third of the way up for a bivy (unplanned that low), we spent three days on the wall due to inclement weather. After watching avalanches cascade near our wall-side bivy, we then proceeded to crawl with our remaining sinew and grit to the summit of this mighty mountain.
We rejoiced and regaled, however, the task was only halfway done. Now for the hard part, descending this peak. Much to our chagrin, we discovered that there was a heavily used "use trail" with a strange rock feature that was placed there, not by God, but by man - A BENCH.
While we were happy to see the bench, unfortunately it was already occupied like the hut on the other side, by a Las Vegas native vagrant. The wildlife in this area is rather feisty, even after explaining our epic on the other side. He proceeded to query us for our spare change, to which we decidedly turned and fled the mountain.
Five minutes and 400 vertical feet later, we were among the local ghetto bastards and other plebeians lost in suburban hell. I'm not sure what was worse, the West Face of Lone Mountain or the ensuing events which transpired.
I challenge the author of this on his claim that this is a local mountain. I would liken the challenge of this peak to that of a 8000 meter peak, minus 7500 meters, add about 100 degrees, and remove the snow. Quite the epic indeed.
After a business meeting in Vegas, three of us hiked to the top of Lone Mountain. Great view for the amount of effort. We had strange weather on this day in April. It was snowing in the morning and cloudy and nice later in the afternoon.
I do this hike quite often.at least weekly with girlfriend, most often from north west trail off (vista trail rd) the start of the trail is loose gravel with moderate incline which makes it slippery coming down (most weekend hikers slip right at the end of the trail on the loose gravel)other than that its great quick hike with great views of city and bigger peaks to the west, it is great night hike as the strip lights make for great pictures and coming down at night is not as hard as you might think as the trail is clearly visible(except at bottom)

"Secret" routes
This mountain has a series of relatively "secret" (they aren't well known) bolted sport routes on the southeast ridge that are easily reached from the south parking lot of the park off of Jensen. They range in difficulty from 5.6 to over 5.12 and are plenty fun! Because so few people know about them (yet), you will probably have them all to yourself. Look for a big chimney near the base of the southeast ridgeline for the start of the routes. CAUTION: These routes were obviously put up by some very good climbers; they have bolts on the crux sections but are fairly runout over any 5.5-5.7 terrain that doesn't contain a route's crux move!
