Longs, McHenrys & Chiefs Head

McHenrys takes center-stage in this shot from Powell Peak's summit ridge. The peak is flanked by Longs on the left and Chiefs Head on the right. McHenrys Notch, the saddle between McHenrys and Powell, is somewhat in view as well. April 16, 2005

Great Shot

I love this series of pictures from RMNP. I'm guessing you went up Flattop, Otis, Taylor, Powell, and returned down Andrew's Glacier - past Alberta Falls and back to Bear Lake. How cold was it up on the divide?

Re: Great Shot

Hi there! Glad you liked the pic, this one was my favorite of the bunch.

You're close, but we didn't make a loop hike out of it. We started at the Glacier Gorge TH, ascended Andrews Glacier, climbed Powell first, and traversed back, summitting Taylor along the way. Then we took the quick hike up to Otis before descending back down Andrews Glacier for the return trip.

It was a really warm spring day on the Divide in the mid to high 30s with no wind to speak of (much nicer than the last two weeks in the mountains)! If you're interested, I have a TR on my website.
