look at them goats!

look at them goats!

While enjoying lunch near the unnamed tarn east of Natahki Lake, I spotted these three mountain goats traversing a sheer cliff face on Mount Henkel. Words cannot describe the awe a scene like this elicits! I apologize about the quality, but it was a warm, hazy day. Please enlarge to for a better perspective. June 30, 2009

Envy...

is what I feel when I watch mountain goats. If I could be any other animal for a day, I don't know if it would be a golden eagle or a mountain goat.

That is incredible.

Don't they sometimes find some that have dropped off a rock face like that? My father once found a chamois that had fallen down from a rock face near the Wildspitze!

Re: That is incredible.

certainly. i saw a goat kid slip and fall on what appeared to be a rather steep face once. he tumbled downhill a few feet before catching himself, and promplty scrambled back uphill towards mama.

Ohmygoodness!

What a phenomenal thing to see!

(Is that the sheer east face of Henkel?)

Re: Ohmygoodness!

it is indeed! i saw goats in a similar spot on Crowfeet Mountain's sheer east face last year. watched three different groups traverse some impossibly narrow, crumbly ledges at different spots along the face. unbelievable stuff.
