And at center in the distance......Steamboat Mountain. I car-camped on an overgrown logging road on the backside of that thing but didn't want to climb it in the morning in the rain.

I remember looking at that one on a map before I went and did Sleeping Beauty and Sawtooth a few weeks ago but could not find any info on it so I gave up on it. Let me know if you want to go back and nab that one.

Re: And at center in the distance...I was able to drive to here (c. 4,600 ft) where the road finally necked down to undrivable. I parked and camped, exhausted from trying to keep up with Nelsen on Skamania Pinnacle. The peak is only 800 ft higher. Not much of a climb considering the long drive, but a good thing to tag while passing through for other reasons--especially if that shorter approach and trail on the SE side is really there.

Re: And at center in the distance...I think William Sullivan references Steamboat Mtn in 100 Hikes in the Portland area back in the appendix. I seem to remember seeing a sign for Steamboat when we were over climbing Sawtooth, tho' didn't have time to go check it out.
What's the Skamania Pinnacle? I've never heard of that one... Sounds interesting.
