Looking South from the Summit

Looking South from the Summit

Looking south down the south ridge of East Sister to the North Fork Clearwater Canyon, which is over a mile below. The rocks along the ridge line much of the upper elevation and provide good surfaces to play on. The east slope of the photo shown on the left is an open mountain parkland, while the west side is forested. August 2006

There's

one word that comes to mind when viewing these photographs: pristine. Great job capturing this beautiful area.

Re: There's

Thank you. Its a bit of a marvel that with all the timber management in the general area that this area hasn't been touched. Actually there are some logging units in the lowest elevations at the west base of the mountain, but very few. The area has been up for Wilderness designation many times but has never been formally designated. However, under current management, it will never be logged and I'd just assume not designate it because then more people will flock to it. Right now there is so little use that all but the main trails are fading away.
