looking south over the Many Glacier Valley from Altyn Peak

Residing at the Many Glacier Hotel for the summer, it's virtually impossible for employees to resist climbing Altyn Peak (7,947 ft). Popular routes exist on Altyn's scree-covered southern slopes - however, this area is often seasonally closed to humans for "resource protection", as mountain goats and bighorn sheep are given room to rear their young. On July 3, 2008, the Park Service lifted the area closure, and to my knowledge, 21 Many Glacier employees climbed to the top of Altyn Peak over the course of what was a hot and sunny day. Needless to say, we had been waiting for that day to come for quite sometime! My friends Chris and Zach, along with myself, were the last employees to make it to the top. This photograph was taken around 6:30 pm. July 3, 2008

3,000 feet up

funny how 3,000 feet of elevation gives you some great viewpoints!

Proof that I'm a Glacier Nerd

My first thought when I look at this photo: "Cracker Flats is sick."

Do you think there's a goat trail that goes from the Grinnell Glacier basin to Piegan Pass? Looks likely.

Re: Also...

Yeah Rory, there probably is. Looks a bit snowy in early July, but perhaps it melts out?
