From Main Divide Road  Sucess!

The area is recovering nicely from recent fire damage - the number and variety of wildflowers was amazing. Took the paved road from Ortega Hwy (still in great condition), and had the whole trail to myself on a lovely blue-sky day.

Main Divide Road  Sucess!

Hiked up with Josh, he snowboarded most of the way down. Snow level was below 3,000 feet.

Bell Ridge (x2)  Sucess!

A much longer, but more interesting hike from the start of the Bell View trail in Rancho Santa Margarita. Good trail all the way, lots of ups and downs both directions.

Probably not the most fun way to get there.

Main Divide, Attempt #2  Sucess!

We planned to ride bikes from the locked gate on North Main Divide Road to the guard rail where the hiking trail starts. But when we arrived we found the gate open. A hunter we encountered later told us that the Forest Service leaves the gate open in hunting season. Incidentally we saw 3 mature Doe running along Main Divide Road. So we hiked the short 1.5 mi. from Main Divide Road to the summit and back. beautiful day, great views. Previous attempt from the then locked gate with my kids, nieces & nephews ran out of steam at first false summit.

Main Divide Road  Sucess!

It was a three bears day for hiking (not too hot, not too cold, just right!) to Trabuco, Horsethief and Los Pinos. Nice 14 mile day.

Drive Up  Sucess!

I was expecting the Main Divide Road to be gated shut as it was two weeks earlier when I drove by, but it was open. So, being the shameless peakbagger I am, I drove up. Also tagged Trabuco Peak and had time to drive down to Margarita Peak since I saved so much time here.

Nice view  Sucess!

Did this while hiking back along the Main Divide Road from Trabuco Peak. Nice views, but the trail is a little beat up from overgrowth and the ruts from MTBs coming through here (there must be a lot of 'em for the ruts to become so prominent).

From The San Juan Trailhead  Sucess!

A good workout for a local trail! The Los Pinos Trail is in not so great shape. It's a little overgrown, needs bunch of loose rock removed and it's sometimes rutted from the mountain bikers.

From Main Divide Road  Sucess!

Everything was green for the first time in a long time (since the drought the previous year).

Biked it  Sucess!

Me and my older brother rode from Blue Jay Campground to the peak, then back down to Main Divide Road and then over to Trabuco Peak and then up to Santiago Peak and then back down into Trabuco Canyon. Great views and solitude!!
