Loved it even more the 2nd & 3rd times!  Sucess!

#1: 7/29, via Picnic Canyon. The creek crossings are fun and Picnic Canyon is beautiful. Lowe is right in the middle of the southern Oquirrhs so 360 views are stunning!
#2: 8/25: Looped starting up Ophir Canyon, followed the ridge over 10160, Rocky Peak and 9530. Bushwacking following the drainage from Ophir Canyon to Dead Ox got a little rough in spots but Ophir Canyon is beautiful! Loved the north ridge en route to 10160 & Rocky Peak! Rocky Peak ascent is also fun! Took a break on top of 9530, looking down on Ophir Canyon, then came down via Chandler Fork, which was also gorgeous. Altogether, one of my favorite Oquirrh hikes yet! (12 mi loop, 4700 ft elevation gain)
#3: 9/23: This time was in the middle of a long day traversing the full Ophir circuit: Up Ophir South Fork to Lewiston & Flat Top, north across 9925 and 9820 to Lowe, over 10160 to Rocky, then over 9530 and back up to Bald, coming down via Serviceberry. 24 mi, 8100 ft elevation gain, 12 hrs 20 mins, including breaks.

BP, Kelsey, Lowe, and Rocky  Sucess!

A long twelve hour slog round trip led us up to Lowe and back from Butterfield Pass. Beautiful day with clear views to the Raft Rivers, the Deep Creeks, Pilot Peak, and even Logan Peak in the Bear River Range. Also saw giant smoke clouds from the Trail Mountain fire in Sanpete County. Saw and heard a large herd of elk below the summit. Gorgeous peak, especially the north face!

Not very low  Sucess!

#1. 10-18-14 W/ Dave & Brent. Beautiful fall colors. 2+50 up. #2. 11-15-14. Oh, the wind chill! Couldn't see a thing on top. BRRR. With great hiking partner. #3. 3-21-16 Solo. On snow 99% of the time. Flag support structure down on the summit. The SW winds (warm before the storm) were strong but tolerable. 3+13 up. No snowshoes necessary today; solid snow for boots and microspikes. #4 4-2-16 W/ Lana, Bent, Julie, Sharon & Steve. Sometimes crummy snow but all in all okay. Bluebird day. 4+10 up. #5 4-1-17 W/ Lana, Sharon & Nancy. After Rocky Peak and a failed try for Kelsey. From the saddle between Rocky & Lowe. Plenty of snow. #6 04-05-17 w/ Jim K. & Lana C. 3+15 up. Different ridge up to the Lowe ridge. Bluebird day except fort pesky winds on occasion.

Wind Chill Teen Temps  Sucess!

#1 Wanted to give up because the wind made it unbearably cold. But my friend wouldn't hear of it. Made it safely to the summit and back down again. Save this one for a warmer day.
#2 04/02/16: With/ Sharon, Steve, Michael, Brent, and Julie
#3 04/01/17: Got Rocky Peak, attempted Kelsey to within 1/4 of a mile, turned back because of sketchy conditions, went back over Corn and over to the summit of Lowe. With Nancy, Sharon, and Michael.
#4 04/05/17: Went over this one and Corn twice to get Kelsey. Beautiful bluebird day made the trip fantastic. With Jim and Michael.

Lowe Peak  Sucess!

This peak was my main objective when I started out, but starting from Butterfield Canyon, doubts crept in when I got to Kelsey Peak that I may not have the energy to make it. I quickly threw those aside and continued on the 2.5 miles from Kelsey to Lowe. On the way back I went up Rocky Peak as well. All said and done this hike included 5 peaks; Butterfield Peaks, White Pine Peak, Kelsey Peak, Lowe Peak, and Rocky Peak. Roundtrip distance was 15.8 miles and elevation gain was 6,606 feet. Thank god there were trails that undercut Kelsey and White Pine and met up with their adjacent saddles, or it would have been a 7,500+ ft day. Awesome hike.

The Timpanogas of the Oquirrhs  Sucess!

The second tallest peak in the Oquirrhs, and apparently the most visited? Sounds a little like the equivalent of Timpanogas and the Wasatch.
I headed up from Ophir Canyon with a friend and the pup. We decided to take the Picnic Canyon Route up for some more scenery and enjoy a less steep approach, albeit longer. It kind of reminds me of going up Timpanoke, instead of Aspen Grove... I digress. I really enjoyed the approach from Picnic Canyon. It was gorgeous, the old cabin was cool as well. When we reached Dead Ox Pass I thought that the peak was not that far. Looks were deceiving. It took longer than I expected and was further. If I had any advice it would be to just follow the ridge. There are many trails that take off along the ridge, I assume game trails. Don't follow these!
We came down a spur ridge towards Ophir Canyon. It was mostly good except for the final part which required some bushwhacking to get back down to the canyon bottom. From here we followed the trail back down the canyon. The Oquirrhs really are gorgeous. I was surprised by the number of elk bones scattered all around the mountain. Also there were quite a few bow hunters out for deer. Good thing I wore bright red.

Scout Trip  Sucess!

Great peak we did it as a backpacking trip. Started in Ophir canyon camped at the cabin south of Dead Ox Pass. Next day packed over the peak continued north and dropped down the valley on the north side.

Via Ophir  Sucess!

Did you know there are 13 stream crossings on this one from the end of the Ophir Road? We went up the west drainage to the ridge and then back via Dead Ox pass (where we saw about 60 elk) The ridgeline that is north of Dead Ox pass looks like the best way to go up and down this one. Did this with my son in law who is vacationing from Washington state. 3500 feet of elevation gain is a great conditioner. The scenery back in there is beautiful.

Climbed this peak twice  Sucess!

I climbed this in March of 2009 and in May of 2009 leading a WMC trip. Both times via Ophir Canyon and Dead Ox Pass. Saw about 200 elk on the May trip. A beautiful peak especially when viewed from the north. Would like to traverse over to Rocky Peak someday. Also, what is with that old comm's shack west of the summit with all of the old decaying batteries in it?

ski tour from Ophir Canyon  Sucess!

Several inches of very fresh snow made it possible to ski all the way from the parking area, excluding numerous creek crossings. Many sunny or windward aspects were virtually devoid of previous snow at all elevations, but we were able to ski from a couple hundred feet down from the summit. The weather was supposed to be mostly cloudy, but we had a lot of nice periods of relatively clear weather, though we couldn't see anything from the summit. It was a very warm day for February. The solitude was very nice, but from the summit ridge we could hear automatic weapons firing in the distance on the SL valley side (!)

Via Ophir Canyon  Sucess!

Skinned up with a group of five others via Ophir Canyon. It took us six hours to summit. The west aspect was very wind swept but we found a drainage with plenty of snow to ski down. Nice place, I enjoyed the solitude. There is a warm spring in Ophir Canyon which feeds a creek we had to ford several times on the approach.

Lowe Pk from Butterfield Canyon  Sucess!

I've climbed this peak many times from Butterfield Canyon, including one memorable trip during the general deer season when we really shouldn't have been there. Another time I found a Golden Eagle, freshly dead, with no obvious sign of trauma (a natural death?) Of course I would be admitting to a crime if I said I took primary wing feathers and claws, so I won't say that.

Route Climbed: Ophir Canyon Date Climbed: May 14, 2005  Sucess!

Climbed on a sunny spring day from Ophir Canyon. Followed the south ridge from Dead Ox Pass, then descended the west slopes. Afternoon heating made the snow so soft we were post-holing even with snowshoes.
