Lumpy Ridge

Lumpy Ridge

Lumpy Ridge is an east-west ridge that rises to the north of the Town of Estes Park, Colorado. The granite faces and domes make up one of the most famous rock climbing areas in the United States. The many established technical routes range from 5.0 to 5.14 in difficulty, and climbs from one to 9 leads. Since most rocks are south facing, it is a popular climbing area year round. This picture is from the summit of Castle Mountain, south of Lumpy Ridge. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Click on image to see the full sized annotated panorama.

Another great panorama!

Thanks for submitting these Jim. I just added it and the Thatchtop panorama to the RMNP page. Great stuff.

Re: Another great panorama!

Thanks, my friend ...
One of these days I'll get around to writing the geology section ... things have been a wee bit busy for me.
Hope all's well with you.

Re: Great and informative photo!

Thanks. It was taken from the summit of Castle Mountain, which is across the Black Canyon Valley to the south from Lumpy Ridge.

Re: Great and informative photo!

Thanks for the info; I'll have to climb Castle Mountain one day, at the very least to have this great view of the entire Lumpy Ridge!

Re: Great and informative photo!

If you're interested ... I usually climb Castle Mountain from the parking lot for Nikki's Restaurant. There are probably some private property issues, but no one has ever said anything to me. The summit is actually in Rocky Mountain National Park. I'm sure you can climb it from the Black Canyon side but since it's a north facing slope there will be more bushwacking.
Have a good climb ... Peace, Jim
