Pole Pole  Sucess!

Climbed via Machame to Barranco. Left the route at Barranco and went to the Arrow Glacier. From there we climbed the Western Breach into the crater. Camped in the crater and summited from there. Descended via the Mweka route. Everybody made it.

Hurray!  Sucess!

On a lazy september evening in 2008, after some indoor climbing and some alcohol, one of my friends shouted pretty much out of the blue: "Let's climb Kilimanjaro!". We all euphorically agreed to this brilliant idea, although most of us didn't even know the mountain.

In August 2010 we went up the Machame Route with a group of 9 PhD students. None of us had any altitude experience, but we were fit and educated about the mountain. We took an extra day (7 instead of 6) in order to increase our ascent chances. During our climb, everyone agreed that this was a wise decision. More than 7 days are useless btw; the ascent day stays long because you cannot camp above Barafu camp (4550m).

We booked with climbingkilimanjaro.com and were 100% satisfied with their services. Great guides and porters, and fantastic ground support! Climbingkilimanjaro.com works with well organized local organizations and is one of the few companies who make sure the porters get fair wages. Two thumbs up!

We were lucky: the weather was good all the way through. Unfortunately 2 of us had to quit on day 3 due to respiratory problems, but the rest made it to the crater edge and 6 (including me) actually reached the top. Route favorites were the Breakfast Wall (the steepest bit of the route), the night sky just above the clouds in Barranco camp at 3950m (you see so many falling stars, it's insane!!), and reaching the crater edge at sun dawn (Woooowwww! That is joy in its purest form.).

This was an experience that we will never forget. Thank you Kili! We will always remember you and eachother! :)

Did it in 6 days. Everyday offered something different. It rained every afternoon but it just added to the unique experience.

Great route!  Sucess!

Great route, even if a bit long. The "Wall" at Barranco is impressive.

7 Days  Sucess!

All 7 of our group made the summit. We did the Machame Route over 7 days with Kessy Tours. I highly recommend adding the 7th day since it splits the long day before the summit into 2 easy days. We had a clear sky with 5 to 10 K winds on the summit. Temp just around freezing.

Good Route  Sucess!

I chose Machame because it is supposed to be the most scenic option. I was not disappointed. All four of us made the summit. 4 days up and 2 down. Take a look at the Trip Report.
