Malan Peak w/ Braden and Rori
Quick, beautiful hike to this peak. It's more of a lookout, but the views are fantastic. Braden is probably the local legend on this bad boy, and his dog Rori is likely in 2nd place.

Malans
10/30/2013 After spending several hours hiking around Antelope Island, we drove back to Ogden and decided to add Malans Peak to the schedule. We started at the 29th street trailhead and reached the top in 55 min. After a quick hike down, I made my way back to SLC.

Malan's Peak
A brief walk up from 27th and into Taylors Canyon the trail is smooth very gradual and then you cross the bridge to the Malans and the fun is over or has it just begun. There is nothing gradual anymore it is up from here on out. You start taking very long switchbacks until you are top, which surprised me once I past the first long switchback didnt take too long. This trail is in really good shape and moderate to travel. A little rocky on the first leg, just watch your step and your head as you round the first going into the second there is a little overhang you have to dodge. I probably wouldnt have been so worn out by this one if I didnt start so late at night, give yourself plenty of time. I had to run down before it got to dark. The sunset was magnificent from the Peak.

Multiple climbs
7/14/12 - Exploring in the Basin
Headed up late in the day. It was really muggy as it had rained earlier. Tried to find a trail leading up to Mount Ogden. Found bits and pieces of trail, but not a clear, obvious path. Ran across the biggest rattlesnake I've seen, sunning on a rock near the river, half a mile or so above the Basin plaque. The snake spooked me, and I turned around shortly thereafter.
7/1/12 - Fast peak bag
Hurried up and back. Hot. Tired. No snakes.
6/27/12 - Waterfall Loop
Started up Waterfall Canyon, climbed the "chute", up and over into Malan's Basin, over to the Peak, and then down the switchbacks. A great hike!
5/28/12 - No Snow -
Hiked up to the peak and then the basin and then down through Waterfall Canyon. Saw a rattlesnake at the peak. All of the snow is gone. The plants in the basin are starting to sprout up, but the trail is easy to follow from the basin to Waterfall.
3/17/12 - Still Icy
Started up around 5:00 p.m. A little windy, especially at top.
Most of the snow is gone at the bottom, but the switchbacks still have lots of ice. As Collinshepherd said, bring your Yaks or Microspikes.
2/21/12 - In the dark and snow II
Climbed it again after work with my wife and Kadee. There was fresh snow on the trail, but it was relatively well-packed and not icy. Didn't use Microspikes or Yaks. A great night.
2/17/12 - In the dark and snow
Started up at 6:00 p.m. Put on Microspikes and a headlamp at the first good viewpoint around sunset. Gorgeous views. Hit the peak in the dark. Back to the car by 8:00.
The trail was nicely packed but not icy. The spikes made it easy to descend without having to worry about traction. A great hike!
1/14/12 - Malan's Peak with pup
What a gorgeous day! Took my little 8-month old Shih Tzu up. There was fresh snow and no ice. A great hike!

Not really a peak, but more like a look out point. Either way it is a nice, steep hike and the creek is ragin right now. I was up and down in a couple of hours. Great hike to do in the Ogden area if you want something steep and will get your lungs burning.
