Male Large Copper Butterfly

Large Copper Butterfly (Lycaena dispar) belongs to the Family Lycaenidae. It can be found on the edges of forests and in the meadows up to 2000 meters.This butterfly is on the Red List of Threatened Species. Males and females look different. Females have conspicuous dark dots on their front wings ( which are missing in males). Photo taken by my cousin Ewa. The Low Beskid – Mount Dzial – Czarnorzeki – June 26. 2008

Thank you fro the nice comment. We have seen this butterfly this summer also for the first time ever even though we have been hiking for many years now. There is also very similar species (Hoedes virguareae) living in Poland that we also managed to photograph. Greetings, Henryk.
