Challenging   Sucess!

Definitely more challenging then described in some of the books. The route is changed now and we had to climb some easy rock before the summit. Not many people in the valley gives you a good feeling of remoteness, fantastic views as usual in Cordillera Blanca.

Bad snow and bad weather  Sucess!

Climbed it on a weird weather day on a weird weather season. Not a single sign of any other people. For an "easy" route, I was surprised to find challenging route finding and relatively steep snow (50ish degrees). Very good day overall though!

Maparaju Normal Route  Sucess!

A nice ascent, Quebrada Cayesh is a lonely and wild place.

Rocky summit seamed higher

I can´t say I reached the real summit though I got really close. I got the the top of the "snow" summit but as I stood there, it seemed like the rock outcrop 200m away was slightly higher (by 3 or 5 meters). To reach it however was more technical that I had the equipment for at the time.

Marginal weather  Sucess!

Early in the morning, it was drizzling. I abandoned the planned early start. Around eight or so I headed out anyway, figuring I could always return if things got too bad.
By the time I got to the glacier, things started to improve. I could still see the old trails, so small was the total amount of new snow. The glacier was easy going, but the summit was very small and exposed. I carefully worked my way to what seemed the highest point, but as it appeared corniced, I didn´t dare to stand on top of it with both feet, just one.

SW FACE - RUTA NORMAL

Maparraju is a good mountain for the acclimatisation process, it is in a valley not very frequented by the mountain climbers and has very good views of many snow-covered very great among them the mitico cayesh

foggy  Sucess!

most of our group made it to the top successfully. Fairly busy mountain. Unfortunately too foggy for many views. Overall fairly straightforward snow climb with a few crevasses to cross.
