I was worried the smoke from the Detwiler Fire might affect the air quality, but we got lucky! It was still pretty clear and we had great views all around. We hiked Markleeville first, using a use trail or maybe an old fire road that started from Blue Lakes Rd. We had a couple of small snow patches to cross, and then the off-trail fun began. The wildflowers were out in full display, and I've never seen so many mariposa lilies in my life! After first summiting the false summit, we hopped over to the actual summit, signed the register, and headed back down to the car to hike The Nipple.
Fun short hike up from Blue Lakes Rd to these two summits. Nothing too tricky about route here. True summit of Jeff Davis would be tough to get up too.

Nice day with meetup group.
Pretty easy cross country hike from Blue Lakes Road - did the Nipple afterword even though we didn't even start Markleeville until 2:30 and was still back to the car before sunset. 2 of the easier OGUL's to be sure. Trip report is HERE.
Hiked from the locked gate off Carson Pass. Made a winter overnight out of it. Easy climb, nice views.
Hiked from Jeff Davis, followed by the Nipple. Wanted to climb Jeff Davis Peak as well, but the summit plug was too crumbly for our taste. Entire area of these three peaks with awfully crumbly rock. Should be more enjoyable in winter, though.
From the locked gate 7mi back along Blue Lake Road.
Still a whole lot of snow back there but nice warm calm day today.
Pics/Commentary are here.
Found my way over to this peak from Jeff Davis. It's easy enough and worth the effort. Climbed with the NorCal peak hikers group.
Climbed up from the Hope Valley Road (to Blue Lakes). The peak is easy walking. Saw a lot of wildlife and the view is outstanding!
Short sandy uphill slog amidst the mule ears.
Pics are here.
Easy stroll from Jeff Davis.
From the Blue Lakes road, headed up on a windy but totally cloud-free day.
Left from Grover Hot Springs and traveled up Charity Valley. Nice views from the summit and great weather all day.
Went up the west slopes. Hot and dry out. Went up Jeff Davis next.
Saw the peak on the left side of the road, parked and headed on up. saw the biggest jack rabbit that i've ever seen.
With Matthew, below. Great fun. Trip Report
Last peak of three on the day: The Nipple, Jeff Davis, and this one, out of Red Lake along SR 88. Snowshoe ascent, and then axe/crampons required on the surprisingly steep descent of the NW face. Extremely cold and blustery on the summit, maybe 40mph winds.
After climbing Pickett's Peak and Hawkins Peak from CA88/CA89, I traversed over to Markleeville Peak and Jeff Davis Peak. Beautiful day for this late in the season, no clouds, no wind
