This hike is fantastic!!  Sucess!

Let me say, I’m so happy to have been bitten by the peak bagging bug a month ago. Today I tackled Markleeville Peak and I know I’m new to this game, but this was an amazing hike. Definitely one I could see myself doing over and over again. Along for the hike was my wife, 7-year old son, and 5-year old daughter. This hike would have been rather easy, but our pace was slow with the two kids. My daughter rode on my back in the kid carrier which put an extra 40 lbs in my back, making this a nice leg burner! Took us 2;42 up and 1:18 down, so consider that if taking little ones. We followed Dean Gaudet’s gps track most of the way, good starting point. Jumped a buck in the drainage and saw lots of old bear scat. The wildflowers were out in force, never seen so many mile ears before! Found the register under a flat rock just behind the summit stick. Register dated back to 1999! Super cool. Absolutely loved this hike!! This is Ogul #2 for me! Can’t wait to tackle more from this list. Check out my images on my Instagram, @thehuntindaddy

Markleeville and The Nipple  Sucess!

I was worried the smoke from the Detwiler Fire might affect the air quality, but we got lucky! It was still pretty clear and we had great views all around. We hiked Markleeville first, using a use trail or maybe an old fire road that started from Blue Lakes Rd. We had a couple of small snow patches to cross, and then the off-trail fun began. The wildflowers were out in full display, and I've never seen so many mariposa lilies in my life! After first summiting the false summit, we hopped over to the actual summit, signed the register, and headed back down to the car to hike The Nipple.

Markleeville Jeff Davis Double  Sucess!

Fun short hike up from Blue Lakes Rd to these two summits. Nothing too tricky about route here. True summit of Jeff Davis would be tough to get up too.

Quick afternoon hike  Sucess!

Pretty easy cross country hike from Blue Lakes Road - did the Nipple afterword even though we didn't even start Markleeville until 2:30 and was still back to the car before sunset. 2 of the easier OGUL's to be sure. Trip report is HERE.

Mokelumne combo

Hiked from Jeff Davis, followed by the Nipple. Wanted to climb Jeff Davis Peak as well, but the summit plug was too crumbly for our taste. Entire area of these three peaks with awfully crumbly rock. Should be more enjoyable in winter, though.

Route Climbed: Traverse from Jeff Davis (ascent) / NW Chute (descent) Date Climbed: Jan 13, 2006  Sucess!

Last peak of three on the day: The Nipple, Jeff Davis, and this one, out of Red Lake along SR 88. Snowshoe ascent, and then axe/crampons required on the surprisingly steep descent of the NW face. Extremely cold and blustery on the summit, maybe 40mph winds.
