Easy dayhike to a very cool fire lookout and nearby peak. Great views over Lake Tahoe and north to the Sierra Buttes.
Trail run, view obscured by smoke
Easy enough for my dad with bad knees to manage, but still a good trek. Awesome views.
A fun day of snowshoeing - Up the TRT starting on Hwy 267, up to Martis Peak and then over to the COHP and the short hop up to Baldy. Round trip was about 13.5 miles. TR is HERE.
Hiked the TRT to Martis Peak. It was a hazy day due to a wildfire burning nearby.
Snowshoe outing with my wife, a couple of beers at the summit and nice views.
Started at the Mount Rose TH and hit the regulars on this TRT segment: Relay Peak, Rose Knob Peak, Rifle Peak and Mount Baldy.
Still some snow along the road. Ran about 2/3rd of the way up and almost all the way down. I could see Lassen Peak from the fire tower. Although I found it, Martis Peak Road is not marked.
Very enjoyable snowshow trip. Easy for a day and great views. Love the drawings inside the lookout labeling the surrounding peaks.
Skinned my way up, and slid back down. Kind of a soggy day--the snow kept clumping on my skis, grrrrr. Snowing on top, so no view, but a fun outing nonetheless.
Hiked the TRT from Brockway summit to Martis Pk, Placer HP, Mt Baldy, Rifle Pk, Rose Knob and Rose Knob Pk. The lookout has good views, the peak itself does not. I ran into 5 bears near Martis Pk around sunset on my way back.
Hiked with Renee. We ran into some thunderstorms but only a little rain.
Tagged this on the way to the Placer Co. highpoint further east. Beautiful weather, lots of snow, but didn't need the snowshoes for the morning hike. Trip Report
Skied from the summit! Trip Report
Did some car plants on Martis today, didn't go to the summit though.
Continuous snow from the locked gate up to the lookout. Carried snowshoes the whole way since it was packed down by snowmobile traffic.
Beautiful clear day and unseasonably warm (50's in the afternoon). Nice half-day stroll.
Also did this several times in winter 2003.
Needed snow shoes the last 1/4 mile.
Fun, fun snowshoe with great views. Highly recommended.
