Paired with Going-to-the-Sun
Views were not amazing due to regional forest fires. Also got GTTS Mtn this day. Got to see a momma and baby goat playing. Climbed with J Hawes
Up from Siyeh Bend. Beautiful summit views.
Wanted to do Going-to-the-Sun, but we didn't have enough time and the weather looked like it might turn iffy. Did Matahpi instead and it was great. Amazing views of Siyeh from the top.
7 August 2014 - Climbed alone via the NE Ridge to the summit cliffs then traversed to the S Ridge to finish.
5 July 1980 - Climbed with Bill, Paul, Matt, & Martin Bishop via the S Ridge.
Bummed to encounter a fair bit of snow in the gully on Going-to-the-Sun Mountain, so went for Matahpi instead. Easy scramble with great views. Especially enjoyed the drop down towards Sexton Glacier and the beautiful blue tarns at the base of Cracker Peak.
I climbed it with Going-to-the-Sun. Pleasant trip and saw a ton of goats who were very interested in me.
Climbed on a terrible combination of a few inches of wet snow on top of scree. Still an enjoyable day.
Great views, but very windy. Thanks to a great photo in Passmore's book "Climb Glacier National Park" we found the easy climbers trail. Exciting end to our day - we ran into a Grizzly hiking down thru the dry stream bed.
Hiked solo. Also did GTTS.
Did a late afternoon scramble up this peak with my 10 year old son Frank. This was the first of three peaks for us this weekend (Little Chief and Divide the next two days).
Summited Matahpi in about 2.5 hours and then decided we did not have enough yet. So we looked for a way off the summit block to the north but could not find a safe way to downclimb without ropes so traversed down the west ridge and then across the northern scree fields to Siyeh Pass and then back to Siyeh Bend Trailhead.
Fun climb with Rebelgrizz & Cougar14.
2001 with Ronnie, Merrill, Bud, Dennis
Climbed with Rebelgrizz and JFK. Awesome views at the summit. Very fun climb. I'll definely return sometime to the saddle to climb GTTS Mountain.
great Glacier Park stroll!
nice view of Logan Pass.
CLIMBED WITH OTHG DESCENDING TO AREA BELOW SIEYH PASS NEAR PRESTON PARK
9/8/94 CLIMBED WITH VERN INGRAHAM OF WHITEFISH, MT AFTER DOING GTS MTN
7/21/09 Climbed solo along with Going to the Sun
This was a thoroughly enjoyable 1000 foot ascent from the saddle between Matahpi and GTTS Mountains, done during GMS Mountaineering Week with Aaron and Ellen, and a very nice group of GMS folks. The view of Sexton Glacier from the summit is quite memorable—it's quite a bit larger than the view from the Sun Road makes it appear, and from Matahpi you only see the top half! Anyway, a very nice outing, quickly done—and it's a good thing because it was shortly after returning to the saddle and traversing GTTS that blister problems hit in a major way. Ouch! But made both summits, and despite my feet a great day!
In 2003 I attepted it with 2 siblings and my father, we were forced to turn back when the wind got so strong we were nearly blown off the mountain. This past time I climbed with my father, and 2 friends who are much more experienced climbers. It's a fun climb but extremely hard on the joints.
A fun scramble with no one else in sight. made a misguided attempt down the North Ridge, which appeared to be loose class 4/5, on my way to Siyeh.
