Matterhorn from Hörnli hut

Matterhorn from Hörnli hut

My girlfriend Irene and me near the Hörnli hut. In the background the - at that time - inapproachable, but majestic and beautiful Matterhorn. The clouds are disappearing after a period of bad weather - in the bend of Matterhorn this happens very slowly and creates impressive effects. August 2006 by Herbert

Re: Congratulations!

Thx for your comment. We were really lucky - originally we planned to make Breithorn that day, but we had a complete white-out in the morning at Klein Matterhorn. So we went down again and deceided for Hörnli hut as acclimatisation hike. Around 11 am the clouds started to disappear. We got beautiful views on Matterhorn as reward - not the typical ones, but real dramatic and amazing views. We had winds up to 80 km/h and lots of fresh fallen snow - so even the way up to Hörnli hut was not so easy. For already a couple of weeks nobody summited Matterhorn (too much snow) - so the typically very crowded Hörnli hut was nearly empty - we could choose one out of 8 tables inside the hut for our lunch break... ;)

Regards,
Herbert
