Very fun route, would make an excellent ski descent. Climbed it in a whiteout.
Climbed Matterhorn and Whorl the same weekend with a group of PCSers.
A long day hike with cbuelow. Did not enjoy the sandy slog just below the summit. However, a fun scramble at the top with some beautiful vistas!
Nice later summer hike up a beautiful mountain.
From Twin Lakes climbed to Horse Creek Pass and up the SE slopes. Heavy winds approaching the pass and nearing the summit.
It was nice to go light and do it car-to-car in a day.
This is one of the best summits in the Yosemite region. Scenic route and Matterhorn has that majestic look. There's a climber's path 75% of the route.
Long dayhike with Ol' Walsher ... the sandy SE slope was horrible. The views from the top of the Yosemite backcountry, however, were sublime...
Started at Twin Lakes, followed Horse Creek, and ascended the SE side. The rough footing on much of the trail made for a tiring but rewarding day
Surprisingly easy scramble up the saddle. Climbed with my cousin Cory. Great day!
Up the creek, around the back, up some rocks, across some scree... Not sure exactly how we made it up there, but we did. The scramble to the top was awesome. The drive back to the bay area sucked.
Climbed all over the mountain taking the least practical routes (not on purpose!). Loved the scramble to the summit.
Climbed from Burro Pass to the saddle between Matterhorn Peak and another neighboring peak and then a short class 3 scramble up!
Climbed this peak with Bob on the 2007 Sierra Challenge. Enjoyed the peak, nice talus and rock scramble up.
My first of many solos in the Sierras
Camped at lake at 9,800'. Used crampons to get to start. A lot of loose rock coming down from climbers above. Crux is the very last move above the dihedral and small chimney where you will want to haul your packs.
A slog to the pass, did some fun class 3 as we moved toward the East to ascend, back down for a steak and beer at Twin lakes.
car-to-car in a day via the north arete.
The view from the top was a little hazy due to the recent fires.
Camped at the lake
Did the 5.9 variation at the bottom; the rest of the usual route was better quality rock, though, so is best to skip this variation and get up high quicker - leaves more time for skiing back down.
