Medicine Owl Peak, Peak 8625 & Kakitos Mountain - 6.26.2015

These images are from a day hike of Medicine Owl Peak, Peak 8625 (aka "East Amphitheater") & Kakitos Mountain from Saint Mary on the east side of Glacier National Park. I set out with the intention of doing a complete "Medicine Owl Traverse", which would have also included Amphitheater Mountain, Peak 8283 & Peak 8326. As it was one of the hottest days of the year, I decided to be happy with three summits. Still, the effort took about 17 hours, making it my longest effort ever in Glacier National Park (so far).

What a wild day! From the photos, it looks like you cut somewhere across the north face of Amphitheater?

Thanks. I actually went around the south side of Amphitheater and nearly summited. I think I must have put the camera away for awhile on that part. It got a little sketchy for a minute. However, I think that if someone wanted to, they could cut across the north side.

OK, cool, thanks for the info. I kind of lamented not trying for Amphitheater on our Medicine Owl Day. It looks like the route from Medicine Owl up to Amphitheater is straightforward enough, but you're not the first person I've heard describe the south face of Amphitheater as being a bit challenging.
