Milkvetch

There are 20 species of Milkvetch (Astragalus) in Red Rocks, Nevada. They prefer disturbed soil and can be found along many trails. This Milkvetch was in bloom along the Pine Creek Trail in March 2008. These plants are poisonous from the time they emerge until they dry up in late summer. They are non-toxic while dry.

Great ...

I just came from the Calico Basin. Saw several species of flowers, including what resembled the Desert Canterberry Bells. It was a much darker purple than the Milkvetch. No photo. Left the camera at home! - Larry
(There was also water running in Red Springs and Assisi Canyon. Lots of blooms!)

Thanks for the update Larry. I have been looking for the Canterberry Bells everywhere I go around Lake Mead, but no results so far.
