Mind the Little Ones

while hiking after dark - pretty frequent encounters providing there's a stream a few meters away from the trail [in-built flashlight lit up the scene]

Re: Nice :-)

Just one day back, in a different valley nearby (you know it happens quite often you don't feel like getting back so you stay till midnight:-), I was about to step on another salamander - luckily my daughter halted me. A better pic plus description, by another Pole, is here: http://www.summitpost.org/image/455442/379970/fire-salamander-of-devil-s-rock.html

Re: PS: Re: Nice :-)

Aha that makes more sense ;-)
Still even with the headlamps the light on the subject was just right...!
Cheers - David.

Re: PS: Re: Nice :-)

OK David - the camera had a flashlight but I swear the batteries had been running out :-)
PS Just look at the caption now!

Lovely creature - I encountered a common viper on Baraniarky summit...
If you want, you can check it out - it is shot when escaping from me in the first section of this unique video footage.
The second section comes from Bukovské Vrchy - do you know this special kind of wilderness?

Re: salamander

I've never been to the Bieszczady:) As to the reptiles and amphibians, I've seen lots of adders but not so many salamanders. In the valleys of the Mala Fatra, they seem to show up every night!
