The big threesome  Sucess!

Hiked Missouri's west ridge, not to bad once you get into the actual gulch. The swithcbacks were a little tough, but once we made it to the base of Missouri it wasn't to bad. We also did Belford and Oxford on the same day. Lots of miles and elevation, we started at 3:40am and finished around 2pm, so you definately want to get an early start to hit all three summits.

Missouri Gulch/Missouri Mountain Trail  Sucess!

I got started around 7 AM and reached the summit around 10:45. The weather was pretty crummy: mostly cloudy and rainy on the way back. For most of the day the mountain was shrouded in fog...and in mystery, but fortunately the Missouri Mountain Trail is well constructed any easy to follow all the way to the top. As if on cue, the fog lifted somewhat once I reached the summit, so we had a decent view of the surrounding mountains. There were a few marmots running around in the upper reaches of Missouri Gulch. Missouri doesn't seem as difficult as the Belford/Oxford combo that I did almost a year ago.

Missouri Gulch TH, Ascend NW Ridge  Sucess!

Nice trail and good switchbacks. The weather turned threatening so no dawdling.

Missouri Gulch  Sucess!

Windy? Don't go up to the ridge too soon like I did! I spent a long time up there; brrr. The wind blew me flat twice and blew my pack off the ridge and down the C Couloir. Fortunately I had already made plans to glissade down; my pursuit was successful.

C Couloir  Sucess!

Sweet snow climb. Even sweeter glissade back down the NW ridge route.

Missouri Gulch TH, Ascend NW Ridge  Sucess!

Four days after our Belford-Oxford hike, we knocked off Missouri. But this time the weather took a turn for the worse and forced us to beat-feet on the descent to stay out of trouble.

What a day. All three: Belford, Oxford, Missouri, with over 7,500 feet of vertical. God I wish I was 19 again!

Missouri Mountain  Sucess!

2 weeks after my 1st 14er, and it's # 3. The route up Elk Head Pass is beautiful, and once up on the ridge it gets nice.

This one turned out to be an exercise in route-finding once we reached the talus. Climbed with Tom Trent.

Like Belford, kind of boring until you attain the upper ridge. Just I and my roommate this day.

Even in August that creek crossing is still deep!
