3 peak route from Clamshell  Sucess!

Tough but totally worth the effort...by the time I made it to Monrovia Peak, my pants had turned brown and green from all the bush-whacking. Hiked from Clamshell Peak to Rankin Peak to Monrovia Peak, hiked out from Ben Overturff...would recommend this route, so you can re-supply on water at the spring.

Clamshell Ridge route  Sucess!

Nice June day to complete the loop. As others have said, the route is overgrown and requires plenty of bush wacking. But worthy of days effort. Views are terrific, the 10 mile walk back not so much.

Needs some love  Sucess!

Did the 3 peak loop starting from Lower Clamshell Road. Used the GPX from here http://www.everytrail.com/downloadGPX.php?file=user_data/GPX/123845.gpx&name=123845. Thanks Ze. ~8hrs car to car. Once on the Bill Cull trail it becomes more and more clear this doesn't see much use. The firebreak up to Clamshell peak is overgrown and eroded toward the top of Clamshell peak. I would recommend long pants but didn't find it as badly brushy as other posters. One of the coolest things about this hike was that there were more dear tracks than shoe prints on the trail. Also found some "large" mountain lion tracks from Rankin to Monrovia peak and on the decent towards the power lines. Very nice views of LA and the San Gabes. Good climb up, very worth doing but will think twice about the 10 miles back down on the road.

Great hike on an absolutely wonderful day. Steep firebreak from trailhead to Clamshell. Great ridge hike from Clamshell to Monrovia. Steep but very fun descent back to car. Definitely doing this one another day.

Road  Sucess!

Early Thanksgiving morning start. Hiked up the road to the summit in the fog then back down. Took the Ben Overturff trail on the way down which I highly recommend.

3 peak loop  Sucess!

Hiked up the ridge and down the sawpit canyon fireroad. A little hot, the ridge trail is a little overgrown. Also hiked Clamshell Peak and Rankin Peak.

Here is my GPS track and some other stuff.
