The actual plan called for Pinareja and Pena el Oso but somehow Montón de Trigo lay in the way. Had to bag it to perform a five summit hike

A summerday in the winter
Climbed together with Rocío, Cesar & Rafa, from Cercedilla (from Fuenfría). Perfect day with straigt blue sky, no wind and almost 15 degrees.

Route climbed: From the North face of Mujer Muerta
From the segovian North face of Mujer Muerta, from a place were you can park in the km 81 of the road that goes from San Rafael to Segovia.
Going up first to Pinareja. Excellent weather and excellent views to Peñalara, Cabezas de Hierro, Siete Picos...

Alone above the clouds
I climbed Montón de Trigo starting next to the barrier below Parking Majavilán in Las Dehesas de Cercedilla. The beginning of the excursion was along RV 4 to Collado de Marichiva (1753 m), where I started to enjoy the sea of clouds that covered all the valleys from SW to NW. I followed sinking in the snow along the bordier between the provinces of Madrid and Segovia. Ascended Peña Bercial (1998 m) and Cerro Minguete (2023 m) almost without descending between both, descended to Collado Minguete (1992 m) and climbed the south face of Montón de Trigo (2155 m). I was on the summit one hour and a half before nightfall so the light and the clouds formed a very beautiful scenery. I descended to Collado Minguete again and then traversed the NE face of Cerro Minguete reaching Puerto de la Fuenfría (1796 m) on deep snow. Due to I hadn't much water I approached Fuenfría to fill my canteen. The water still run though its setting was icy. Returned to the col and took Calzada Romana at nightfall. I turned my headlamp on, passed Albergue de Peñalara, crossed Puente del Descalzo and reached my car.
I've climbed this peak a few times but I remember one as the most exciting. The mountain was snow covered and it was really hard. I should start the climb from Las Dehesas de Cercedilla but I don't remember more details

This time we could reach the summit. Nice views from the peaks arround.

Really nice place
I found the Fuenfría Valley really nice.
The route it´s beautifull and easy.
Unfortunatelly there wasn´t snow on the peak, so it looked naked.
The other bad thing was we started walking really late so we had to go back before reaching the summit of the peak.

This ascend has a lot of importance for my brother Gabriel and me. It is the first invernal hike with summit included and is our first summit of 2006. All in preparation for our target to ascend Mont Blanc in summer.
