Monte GennaroThis is the nearest (little) mountain (1227m) to Rome. With a prominence of more than 1000 m, is good for hikes or to training in mountain running... Despite of its low height, it has a complex orography, and often hikers get lost in the several valleys covered in deep woods.

Re: Monte GennaroNot only Roma surprised me, I knew it was a nice city but I didn't expect it to be so much. But even more what would pull me there is the proximity of mountains. How long does it take to Gennaro from the outskirts of Roma ? to Grand Sasso ?

Re: Monte GennaroOh! Unfortunally Rome is not so close to mountains... :((
Monte Gennaro is about 40 km from the center of Rome (40min), Gran Sasso is 130 Km, but with autoroute you can reach the cablecar station to Campo Imperatore in about 1h 20m.

Re: Monte GennaroCome on, many people would be glad to have mountains one and half hour far from town, which makes it possible in a one day excursion !
