"Magic Mountain"  Sucess!

This is a very nice view for relatively little effort if you go up via 4WD. The road is quite narrow and very steep in parts, so it's not exactly a picnic if you summit the "easy" way...

The profusion of color and variety of things to be seen from the top certainly make this worthwhile, even if it's an utterly tamed mountain.

Climbed Rotui (2nd highest peak on the island) on November 11, 2005. Going up wasn't bad, but going down in the rain was. I fell several times, twice drawing blood. Steep and spectacular mountain.

Attempted Mouaputa on November 13. This is one scary mountain, and I dared not make the final rope pitches just below the summit. This is one terrifying mountain despite its low elevation. I'm still having nightmares about this climb and feel lucky to make it down alive!

I also did the Vaiare to Paopao route. I also attempted to reach the Three Coconuts Pass, but turned back in the rain.
