Mormon Cricket

Mormon Cricket

Mormon Cricket seen at 12,900' on the NE slopes of "Stony Pass Peak" 9/21/08. There were several of these around ranging from green to black, about 2" long and nearly 3/4" wide. The Mormon Crikcket is actually a Katydid and not a Cricket. Note the striking sword-like ovipositor.

Very interesting photo !

There are over 6800 Katydids living worldwide. I have never seen a Mormon Cricket. Thank you for posting. Greetings, Henryk

Re: Very interesting photo !

Thanks Henryk,

It took a bit of research to figure out what it actually was - very odd creatures.
