It's dawn and I'm looking down the SW ridge from my unusual high camp on the glacier of Jatunmontepuncu.
To be precise, looking "down" is just a figure of speech here. I'm at 5250m or so, and the ridge behind me leads to the summit Jatunmontepuncu, and after that to the towering bulk of Pucaranra (6156m). Looking "down" from where I am, the ridge continues up and down to the SW for about 10km, without really big drops or high peaks. At the end of the ridge lies Nevado Churup (5495m), or 250m higher than where I am now. If you look closely, you can see that the sun is already shining on it!
