My girlfriend and I were taking the ferry over to Moorea, we saw moaputa and said “let’s climb that”. Boy was that a mistake. We found some people who knew a guide that would take us up. It was not cheap but hey, when in Moorea. So we were off at 7:30 AM where Valentine picked us up. Parked at what seemed to be a friend of his house at the trailhead and began this adventure. We were in gym clothes. My girlfriend was wearing running shoes and I had new balance minimus shoes on. That made for a rough trip. The entire trial is wet stone, mud and tree branches. All soaked. The climb up which consisted of 13 rope climbs in varying length would go from steep to very steep. A coconut tree in the middle. Well that’s what he said but I’m not convinced. The fact that We didn’t have helmets blew my mind the entire time. I had zero traction so I fell in the river, I fell on the climbs, and I fell on the descents. Lots of falling for me. I didn’t get too busted up just some scrapes and cuts. There’s two ropes right before the summit and it’s amazing that we made it up alive. After some celebration and pictures we headed down. I was in for a big surprise because I thought it was rough going up. The slick surface throughout the descent made it very slow and frustrating. All in all a great hike and we sure did feel a great sense of accomplishment. It was so beautiful up there. But I would recommend hike boots and lots of water. It’s very hot.

Sent the wife and kids on a day cruise in Cooks Bay. Climbed the peak, but just missed the summit (but I'll sign the log anyway since I maintain the page). The final roped pitches were simply too dangerous and I didn't think I could make it back down alive if I tried the final pitches. This peak is scary and extremely dangerous when the weather is wet. I felt lucky to make it down alive and this was one of the scariest climbs I have ever made. Make sure to try this one in the dry season. I also walked all the way back to the wharf and over the Vaiare-Paopao route to Cooks Bay. Long day.
