Rocky summit  Sucess!

With Flanders. Easy hike up through some rocky areas. Nice rock thrones up top. Great views all over from Washington in NH to Katahdin up north.

Fire Warden's trail  Sucess!

My 2nd attempt since the first time (in April) the road was impassable to vehicles without four wheel drive and good ground clearance. The dirt road was still not something you want to drive on at more than 15 mph. Two hours and fourteen minutes up and exactly the same on the way down on a cloudy but warm day where I had the mountain to myself.

Nice day to summit  Sucess!

Successful ascent from the AT as a side trip. The weather was very blustery just before some rain came in later that evening. Winds were steady with gusts to about 30MPH. Cairns along trail above treeline were easy to follow. The warming shack buried in the rock at the summit was unexpected, it could be a good place to hunker down for the evening

Fire Warden Trail  Sucess!

The summit was enshrouded in clouds, had no view, but it was a fun hike anyway. Slight mist made the rocks at the top very slippery and it was like I was in another world.

Fire Warden's Trail  Sucess!

Great hike. If you have a low clearance vehicle I'd reccomend NOT taking it over the bridges on the access road (the first one is especially bad). There's a stream crossing right at the beggining of the trail that soaked me pretty good half way up my calves (bring extra socks). The first 3 miles or so are very muddy. I spooked a blackbear about halfway to the cabin. From there it's very steep/strenuous, very windy day at the summit.

Mount Abraham  Sucess!

Climbed via the Fire Warden's Trail from West Kingfield. A fantastic hike offering plenty of views and solitude. The spectacular summit slopes provide some of the best views of the entire Rangeley-Stratton Region. The lower section of the trail up to the cabin is very muddy and poorly drained but other than that, this one ranks as one of the best hikes in Maine.

Firewarden's Trail  Sucess!

I think this was the last significant hike I did with my mom. She's still in good health, but hikes like this are probably out of the question now.

Firewarden's Trail  Sucess!

Trail saves all the work for the section above the firewarden's cabin. Really enjoyed the rocky summit - stuck around for sunset.

Route Climbed: side trail off AT Date Climbed: Aug 27, 1998  Sucess!

I really enjoyed the weird rock art- assembled cairns, arches etc. Someone had alot of time on their hands.

The great views and the openness of the mountain's summit reminded me of peaks I'd visited in the western states.

Route Climbed: Fire Warden's Trail Date Climbed: May 21, 2005

Climbed via the Fire Warden's Trail numerous times. The climb from the old cabin to treeline is steep but the views from treeline to the summit are worth the effort. I really enjoy the view to the north.
