Outstanding weather, terrific snow and hundreds of my closest friends accompanying on the single-push ascent and the 2,500' of whoop-hollering glissading down. Couldn't have asked for a finer experience or for finer company. An diesen Berg und dieses Erlebnis werde ich mich immer erinnern.
Suksdorf ridge up and a perfectly timed glissade down.
Came down with altitude sickness. Beautiful sunrise at the lunch counter.
4:30AM start from the TH#183 / South Spur. Summited at 10:30 with perfect blue skies and little wind. Back to the TH by 2:30. Crampons and ice axe are necessary, specifically before the sun hits the slopes. Fantastic day!
We decided to summit Mt Adams in one day. Conservative estimate was 14hrs round trip to do the 6,800 ft up and down but we ended up taking 17hrs to get back to the trailhead. Really started to drag above 10,000 ft but I successfully managed to keep my Acute Mountain Sickness at bay with the right breathing techniques and rest. Good thing we had excellent weather on our side so we renegotiated our turn around time and pushed through to the summit. However, due to the delay the glissade chutes had re-frozen with hard rough ice. While sliding down the 30° slopes at 9 mph the skin on my lower back got exposed to all the friction and I got some minor burns. But descending 3000 ft in 60 mins by sliding down a mountain is a fun experience and was the delayed gratification that kept us going up in the first place! The only thing we could’ve done better is plan for more sleep before getting started :)
Simply wonderful mountain with perfect views and an even more perfect glissade!
Door to door from PDX in a little under 14 hours made for a very nice day with great views of the other Cascade volcanoes. Fairly slushy conditions on the slope to Piker's Peak and beyond made it slow going. The glissade was very fun!
Took the wife up with some friends. We slept at lunch counter and summited in the clouds, however the glissade was epic!
Perfect weather. Gorgeous climb. Best glissading I've ever done. Took us 12 hours round trip.
First mountain I climbed, 15 years old
Great first climbing experience, normal route, not too difficult for a beginner and enjoyable.
great blue bird day, summited via south spur route alot of fun!!
Great hike with beautiful camping at lunch counter. So thankful for all of the windbreaks!
Great trip but long.
Climbed via the South Spur, spent a windy night at Lunch Counter. Should have climbed a month earlier, as so much snow had melted that it was a pain trying to walk up loose gravel most of the way.
2x via South Spur as a dayhike. One ski descent.
A dayhike up the West Ridge from Stagman Ridge TH. Trip Report.
Via South Spur with an overnight at the Lunch Counter.
Two successful climbs, both on the South Spur route a week apart in July 1984. Fun, fun, fun--although bad weather was coming in, luckily we set out some wands marking the route. Turned out to be vital for the descent on the second trip
