Route Climbed: Hourglass ridge (up) / Boulder Grand Pass (down) Date Climbed: Aug 13, 2004  Sucess!

Awesome climb! LONG approach! (so start early). We started at 3:10 a.m. but a better (more relaxed) start time might have been 2:30 a.m.

The trail in was steeper than anticipated but certainly "doable". Once at Lion Lake #1 you have a terrific view of Alice and the approach. Distances in the mountains are, however, deceptive so what looked "easy" still required a lot of scrambling and perseverence.

Ultimately reached the summit at 10:10 a.m. Descended via Boulder Grand Pass. Must be very careful coming down the "chute" to Lake of the Many Winds. Very steep and loose.

From Lake of the Many Winds we followed a narrow trail down to Thunder Lake and then followed the trail proper back to the trailhead. Arrived back at parking lot at 4:10 p.m. Tired but happy!

On this day we only saw one other group of climbers (4 in that group) besides ourselves. As the main page for Alice states, it DOES have a long approach (18-miles round-trip) so be prepared (but it's SOOO worth the effort!)

A beautiful climb. Bring an ice axe to self arrest on snow fields on Hourglass Ridge. I could have used one!

Route Climbed: Hourglass -- Boulder-Grand pass Date Climbed: September 6th 2004  Sucess!

Climbed Mount Alice starting form the Wild Basin trailhead. Great hike. Especially the Lions Lake area is beautiful and the views of Longs and Meeker from the trail are great. -- There was some snow on the route, which made the descend towards Thunder Lake muddy and slippery at times.

Route Climbed: West Ridge Date Climbed: 4 August 2004  Sucess!

Climbed this mountain as part of a six day loop of the North and East Inlets. We started from the Upper North Inlet crosscountry zone (3M), dropped our packs at the saddle, hiked the peak, returned to our packs and descended to Lake Verna in the east inlet. This made for a long, but fun, day. Unfortunately, I submerged my camera in a river a few days before this hike, and therefore have no pictures. It would be a great day hike from either Lake Verna or the Upper North Inlet crosscountry zone.

Very beautiful mountain. I liked the remote feel of it. Didn't meet a single person on summit day. In hindsight would probably ascend the Hourglass ridge and descend the Boulder-Grand pass to go a little easier on the knees.
