Hiked the Jeep/ATV freeway. Windy on the ridge. Great morning on the summit--wonderful views from Antero.
Alexc and I did a snow trudge in mid-October. We saw a hunter on a 4-wheeler. He commented that we were tough. You have to be if you're dumb.
Long slog up the standard route.
Beautiful Day! Also traversed to North Carbonate and descended to Upper Baldwin Lake and out the roads from there.
Hiked West Slopes route from Baldwin Gulch TH. Scramble on the final section of the ridge at 13,800' was nice. After summiting Antero continued on to Cronin Peak. Beautiful weather, nice view from the top.
Actually I have up this mountain a number of times compliments of the road...
First attempt at climbing the 14ers and there was too much snow. Made it just past 11,000 ft and had to turn around, starting from Browns Creek trailhead. Going back this summer when the weather's better, now that I know what to expect.
and we trail ran the road from 12k to the main road
Climbed some nice snow up the west face to join the summit ridge. I remember it being very windy on the top.
Done as a snowclimb via the North Gully and North Ridge. Big, FUN day! Didn't summit due to confusion in choosing an exit in the upper part of the gully.
Out of all of the 54 Colorado 14ers, this was the most miserable day of all. Very cold, extremely strong winds and snow on top.
Antero seemed easy, so added Cronin (previously North Carbonate) to make it more interesting. Beautiful day!
Started from the 4wd parking area early, and had the summit all to myself. Road is boring but easy. Views are amazing, and couldn't have asked for a better day for the begining of October.
Amazing alternative at under 10 miles round trip. No trail above 10,500' which made for a long day. On the ridge the whole time above tree line which made for great vistas - particularly of Princeton and the Chalk Cliffs. Saw not a sole until near the summit. May put a route up at some point.
Little Browns Creek is the way to go. No one else on the trail. From treeline, scrambled up to Point 13,868, then took the ridge to Antero.
bumped into some hotties en route. Drop me a line if reading.
A different type of fourteener, jeeps and atvs all over the mountain. Fun hike! Nice area!
Long day on Antero, but well worhed!
Thank God for 4WD, which saved me a nasty stream crossing right before the upper trailhead. Nice day, but annoyingly windy on the ridge.
