Baldwin Gulch  Sucess!

Drove up the Baldwin Gulch road to the creek crossing, then hiked up the road towards the summit, cutting up a couple of gullies to shorten the distance. Total distance 8.9 miles. Started at 7:30, finished at 1:30. Was joined by my 8 month old Golden Retriever, Loki (his 4th 14er), Luke and his his 9 year old Husky, Genesis. This was my 31st 14er.

Windy, but nice  Sucess!

Took my 6 year old and family friends on this tame hike up Mt. Antero via the standard Baldwin Gulch route. Would have much preferred Browns Creek, but a backpack was not in the cards. Still had a wonderful day with family and friends.

Antero  Sucess!

Shaylee, Kessler and I decided to climb a 14er this weekend. We decided on Antero since I hadn’t done it yet and since it was assumed (correctly) that it wouldn’t require an ice axe.

After getting up fairly early we drove a ways up the 4wd road before parking. Antero is an easy mountain for a 14er, but the climb can be a bit tedious. We grinded our way up the Jeep road to the saddle and then climbed to the summit on the steep rocks. We summited around 10:30 AM.

It was sunny going up, but clouds were gathering when we were at the summit, so we didn’t spend long on top. After enjoying the view we made our way quickly down the mountain. There was a little thunder and it began to snow very lightly. Since we were on a north south ridge with a drop off to the west the snow was "falling upwards". Not at an angle, but straight upwards caused by the updrafts buffeting the mountain. It wasn't that windy, but since the snow was light and fluffy, it was "falling" completely vertically and upwards. It wasn't blowing wildly up, but looked just like it was falling up, in the same manner that it falls down. We felt upside down!

After the brief snow and wind, the weather was good and we were back to the vehicle in no time. It was a nice little climb.

Perfect day  Sucess!

Parked at the upper TH, girlfriend (wife now) tossed up the tent and spent the morning snoozing while I ran up to the summit and back.

long hike  Sucess!

Bagged Antero from Baldwin Gulch on a quiet sunny morning. Pretty lonely on the way up but too much jeep traffic on the descent. Round trip time: 6 hrs. I summited Mt. Sherman 4 hours later taking advantage of a rare storm free afternoon.

Hiked the Jeep/ATV freeway. Windy on the ridge. Great morning on the summit--wonderful views from Antero.

October Trudge  Sucess!

Alexc and I did a snow trudge in mid-October. We saw a hunter on a 4-wheeler. He commented that we were tough. You have to be if you're dumb.

Too much snow

First attempt at climbing the 14ers and there was too much snow. Made it just past 11,000 ft and had to turn around, starting from Browns Creek trailhead. Going back this summer when the weather's better, now that I know what to expect.

North Ridge and North Gully

Done as a snowclimb via the North Gully and North Ridge. Big, FUN day! Didn't summit due to confusion in choosing an exit in the upper part of the gully.
