A second try  Sucess!

Three weeks ago I tried doing this from the road approach. It rained for two hours, which gradually turned to snow as I approached the end of the road. I'd say there were two inches or so on the ground at that point and I hadn't prepared for winter. I went home and came back yesterday, this time from Little Brown's Creek. It was infinitely better weather and the trail up was much more pleasant than dealing with vehicles the entire time. Highly recommend this route

Little Brown's Creek  Sucess!

Less of a slog than I was anticipating. The route up Little Brown's Creek is very nice and relatively gradual. Fun day out!

Mount Antero  Sucess!

Mt. Antero marked my 10th 14er. However it will always be the most memorable. This was my 6 year old sons first as well as my 12 year old daughters first. Round trip they hiked just shy of 8 miles! Could not have been a prouder momma. This was also my husbands first! Started out the morning just after 6 am and summited at 1015. Made it back down to our vehicle at 1330 just before it started sprinkling. Hope to make this an annual trip and will continue to chip away at the 14ers with my kids until they leave me in their dust.

Road Hike from the Baldwin Gulch Lower TH  Sucess!

Started hiking at 5:08 from the lower Baldwin Gulch TH. The smoke from the fires was not as bad as the previous day on Princeton. This is a long route on foot but the cool morning air was nice. The long, gradual switchbacks were definitely a reprieve for tired feet. We summitted around 9:00 am and spent 30 minutes admiring the views on top. We finished around 12:40 pm and were so glad to be done with that long road.

Early day  Sucess!

Headed up the bumpy dirt 4WD road to 10,000 on Sunday the 12th. Google showed that road 277 went to the top of Antero, but this is NOT the case. When you get to fork of 277 & 278, head left across the river, and THAT road (278) will take you dang near the summit of Antero. But we took 277, which is VERY rough, and my little RAV4 got beat to sh**. We had to do a 28 point turn a few hundred feet up 277, and set up camp for the night shortly after the split in the road. So we started hiking early on 7/13 from the 10,000' level and just followed the road to near the summit. We got on top of the summit at 8:25am, and thunderstorms were already building. The summit ridge was extremely windy, and everything from Princeton, north was shrouded in black clouds, but the Antero summit was calm, with no wind at all. It was gorgeous. We had the summit to ourselves. On our way down, we ran into about 10 other hikers that were headed to the top and we had to warn them of the thunderstorms, but that if they waited it out, they could make a summit push.

Mt. Antero

Summited with my friend Earl in July 1983. We camped for the night below the summit ridge and then looked for aquamarine crystals in the vuggy outcrops the next day. Earl was fortunate enough to find an excellent gem quality aquamarine crystal. This was my first fourteeneer.

Via Standard Route  Sucess!

Started around 5:45AM. Road was very, very icy on lower section below treeline. Don't bother attempting to drive up, and bring spikes or crampons. Trail was well packed the entire way. No need for snowshoes. Much of the road is dry above treeline as well. Got back around 2:30PM.

Successful Climb of Mt. Antero  Sucess!

It was a beautiful Saturday. Many others were climbing and driving various 4-wheel drive vehicles on the various jeep trails. There were 20 people on the summit when I arrived, and probably 10+ who I had passed on their way down. See my trip report/chronology of climb.

From Baldwin Gulch 4WD TH at the creek crossing  Sucess!

#1 7-5-16 W/ Yz. The 4WD road was max 3 mph to the creek. Great wx. Long grind on the road. Best part by far was the portion above the end of the road where a homemade sign warned about claim jumping! 3+37 up.
