chairlift beat us to the top!
This was my first succesful climb of a oregon cascade volcano. we actually attempted to climb straight up the mountain with no snow. we did not know there was a trail. Not until we were well on are way under the summit lift when a voice yelled down to us that there was a trail to are south. we decided it was for the best to abandon are route and get off the angular lava flows and walk the trail. we arrived to find two tour coach groups. all japanese tourists except the italian family that wanted us to take there picture with the three sisters in the background. The mountain offers up a spectacular vista.

bagged this along with a few others in the same weekend. got lucky and managed to weasel my way onto the chair lift for the ride down. way to save the knees!

Although I seem to climb Bachelor about once a week this was an especially beautiful day. Got some great shots of all the Cascades and could see south to Shasta and north to Adams. Base to summit only took 1.5 hrs but is best to climb earlier in the a.m. unless you are looking for soft snow to ski down on. Bachelor is always a nice easy and rewarding hike with time and energy left at the end to enjoy a few cold suds.
I've actually climbed this mountain twice, but I've cheated perhaps 10 times. To be quite honest I enjoyed myself more every time I cheated considering I could ski down, climb back up and ski down 5.5 miles of uninterupted excellent terrain to the bottom of Northwest Express, then hit the lodge for food and more importantly beer, then do it all again. Always a classic. Summer mountain biking has left permanent marks on my body. I love Mt. Bachelor

With 30 cm of fresch snow, we were me, Il Marantz and Il Paglia in our ski American tour. A lot of wind at the top: stormy weather, snow and clouds but superb descent in fantastic powder snow!
Took off early Saturday morning Dec 12, 2004 to snowshoe up Bachelor and get back down before the skiiers hit the slopes. We were up there 3 days after the huge avalanche swept down from the summit (check out http://www.bendbulletin.com/news/story.cfm?story_no=15086). At 5 am it was 37 degrees and raining hard sideways. Who would of thunk? So we slept in the truck for another 3 hours and headed up the groomed stuff once the rain was much lighter. We got up to mid mountain and found the summit chair closed. Awesome...We wouldn't have to worry about skiiers, not that there were all that many out on this FINE day. Mostly wet, we headed up the groomed some more until we hit Pole 19, which is the summit building. We were hoping to find a way in out of the elements but, no luck, all locked. So we got out of the hurricaine force winds on the lee side of the building long enough to change into spare clothes, grab food and some useless hand warmers and go back down. Aaron brought his snowboard and got down to the lodge the fastest, but not without a few yard sales on the way. There is something about boarding with a large pack on that does not feel the same. Jeremey and I were down in about and hour. I enjoyed the glisade on my new shovel and Jer was not far behind, with wet arse. About 2.5 up in snow shoes, which were perfect for the conditions. Any colder and crampons would have been better at the top.

I did this climb before there was a summit chair so this was a pretty good workout carrying skis and climbing in ski boots but well worth it. Skied the north face cirque and wiped out pretty bad! Best views around of the Sisters and Broken Top.

Started from the locked gate at Sunrise Lodge. I took 1.5 hr to the top and 1 hr down. Three Sisters were coated in white from an August snowstorm. This one completes all the "major" volcanoes in Oregon for me.

OK, Brian says we cheated bigtime. So be it. We wanted two peaks that day (the other was Maiden Peak), so needed to save as much time as possible. So we rode the lift and climbed the remaining 1300 feet or so directly up the north slopes and ridge. Gorgeous day and enjoyable hike.
Route Climbed: Zig-zag Non-directissima Express (from the ski resort parking lot) Date Climbed: 2 July, 2004
Fun little day hike up a big looking mountain. Met up with Bill (Frostbite on SP) that morning, who decided to go up with me & Lara. Left the ski resort parking lot @ 11.21. We basically just zig-zagged up the mountain, taking whatever line seemed convenient at the time, mostly sticking to the snow to avoid the volcanic talus & scree. Summiting @ 13.51, we took in the spectacular views- seeing Oregon basically border-to-border (we were able to see from Mt. McLoughlin in the S, & able to make out the top of Hood in the N!), with especially spectacular views of the Sisters & Broken Top. The weather was nice, & we enjoyed an Anchor Steam (which I'd brought along) & a Pabst Blue Ribbon that I'd found along the way (score!), on the top.
Going down was fun too. Left the summit @ 15.07. One of the best standing glissade days I've ever had- we were probably able to glissade down over half the mountain! Climbing up one of the lift towers was fun, too. We each enjoyed another beer at the cars (where I arrived @ 16.33) before getting food. Another of the nice things about the day is the lack of people up there (aside from the guys installing the seasonal deck at the top of one of the lifts & resort employees driving around in the truck).
One of the funner hikes I've had in awhile, enhanced by the chill mood, mellow weather, amazing views, & great company!
Route Climbed: Standard Date Climbed: June 12, 2004
Climbed as the first stage of the Raid X-adventure. Thought our 1 hour and 27 minute climb was good till I found out the top teams did it in 40 minutes.
This time skined from the main parking area under Pine Marten and towards the west. The summit approach on skis is much steeper compared to the east approach. Circled around to south of summit and to the top. Snow conditions were just fine but an approaching thunderstorm chased us down quickly.
Cows Face Direct (April 3, 2004)
Perfect, clear and sunny weather. Skined up to the summit starting from the Sunrise parking lot. After admiring the Sisters panorama at the summit to the north enjoyed the ski down. Very fun mountain in nice weather.

Climbed with a group of Chemeketans as part of a ski-bike-climb weekend. The weather and conditions were great so we skinned from the parking lot up to the summit, admired the views for a while, and then clicked our heels in and enjoyed the long ski back down.

Well, there I was, at the top of the summit lift and hardly any distance at all away from the lift was the top of Mt. Bachelor. I couldn't resist, I grabbed my skiis, slung them over my shoulder and postholed up to the very top. The ski descent down through the bowl to link up with the Outback runs was nice though. I'll probably go back some summer and do it the right way, walk up the trail to the summit.
Okay, come on, is this really a climb at all? Nice thing to do while driving through, good exercise after a day in the car. But not really much compared to what's all around you

Looking for an easy climb relatively close to home, annaleiserabinek and I left for Bachelor late Saturday morning. Decided to hike the trail up rather than head straight up the lift to try and make a relatively un-scenic climb as scenic as possible. The switchbacking trail made for a easy hike to the summit. The view from the summit was amazing on a crystal clear day, no more smoke from the B&B Complex. All the way to Mt. Scott to the south, Adams to the north, Mary's Peak to the west and forever to the east. The Sister's and Broken Top take center stage though. Got tired of all the damn switchbacks on the way down so we opted to head down the Sunrise Express lift to the parking lot. Didn't notice the small sigh that warns of the gates being locked at 6pm, so were locked in for a bit, oops. No worries, security guard came along shortly and was cool about it.
