Natreb and I decided to climb this peak before heading out of the Three Sisters Wilderness. Nice peak with nice views.
Hiked the trail starting at the Sunrise lift. Very little snow on the trail but nice glissade down.
Slow all the way up. Left late in the day (2:00), still enough time to at 4:30. Awesome views of the Sisters, but not much time to enjoy the view. Hour long glissade down.
Me and Joel again.
Great skiing, but I hardly can count it as a "summit".
I was glad I brought crampons and ax as it was pretty icy up top. Had the mountain to myself on a beautiful day.
I owned it.
My original plan was to enjoy the storm on some small peaks in the 3 sisters wilderness but the road was closed so I hiked up Bachelor. Heavy snow and strong winds made it a pretty fun workout.
Parked at the lot by the Pine Marten lift, went up service roads to the base of the summit lift and then found the trail to the summit. Pretty fun hike with great views. The way I went was about 3 miles each way with 2800 feet of gain total. Beautiful day, sunny and fairly warm with a nice breeze on the summit. Just under 2 hours up, an hour back down.
19 Jun 2009 - Northwest Ridge
No skis this time, but there was good snow coverage from top to bottom. Another 1hr40min jaunt up.
6 Apr 2007 - Northwest Ridge
Climbed up from West Village under the Red Chair to the Northwest Ridge. Reached the summit in 1hr40min. Skied Chute 4 down the Cirque, then skied the lifts the rest of the day. Backside, Cirque, and NW Express had decent conditions, everything else was grabby slop.
Skiing was the priority for the day so I cheated by using the Summit Chair and walked the five minutes to the top with the skis. I did not see a cloud nearby all day long and had absolutely spectacular views of all the high Oregon mountains, including Hood to the north. There was wind blown fresh powder off all sides of the summit and it was a wonderful first and possibly last ski day of the year for me.
snowshoed up after 3 ft of fresh snow and a cold bivy the night before. white-out conditions and windy, I was allowed to take the lift back down.
I had to bail on Mt. Hood earlier in the morning because of tendonitis in my left knee, but this one was easy enough that I was compelled to climb it when Bob and Rick headed here. (Of course, my knee was then too trashed after this to climb anything for the next two days. It took 2-3 months to heal).
Took the chair up with my grandma. I spent the summer with my grandparents in Bend, went many places. This my first peak over 9000 feet. Thanks grandma!
This is a great fun quick hike... in all seasons scree or snow
I hiked this one with my daughter several years ago. The next day I took the ski lift to the top with my wife. Great views.
Between 1962 and 1965 we tried to climb to the summit to ski down at least once or twice per season.
When I was in high school (and the ski area only went up to the timberline) spring vacation 1964 Bachelor was mobbed, as it was a poor snow year in the Sierras and Californian skiiers boosted the crowds. It took an hour or more in the lift line (I think they had two chair lifts then), and when my buddies and I got to the top, we agreed we didn't want to ski down (about 5 minutes) for another 1 hour wait, so we climbed to the top instead. At lunch we agreed to do the same thing in the afternoon. So for the whole day we probably got in 3 or 4 runs, but we got two summits of Bachelor in a day. (Now I guess folks get 10 or 20 with no effort!)
This was my first succesful climb of a oregon cascade volcano. we actually attempted to climb straight up the mountain with no snow. we did not know there was a trail. Not until we were well on are way under the summit lift when a voice yelled down to us that there was a trail to are south. we decided it was for the best to abandon are route and get off the angular lava flows and walk the trail. we arrived to find two tour coach groups. all japanese tourists except the italian family that wanted us to take there picture with the three sisters in the background. The mountain offers up a spectacular vista.
Bagged it with Rad. Lots of smoke to the north from the Sisters fire, but still a great view.
