Climbed two 14ers with some great company on Saturday. Starting at 5AM from the Missouri Gulch trailhead we made the summit of Mount Belford around 12PM. I went on to solo neighboring Mount Oxford and had to reclimb Belford on my way back. Made it back to the trailhead at 5:30 making this a very long day. 11 miles roundtrip with 6000 ft. of elevation gain over 12 hours.
Straightforward hike from Missouri Gulch; made the summit about 9:30AM. Good weather, good scenery, good views of the whole Sawatch Range. Unfortunately, couldn't add Mt Oxford due to time constraints, but I'll be back.
From Missouri gulch.
2,000' initial climb up to an old log cabin remanent from mining. Switchbacks are straightforward and the view only keeps getting better above gulch. Wind kept increasing too. Combined with beautiful saddle traverse to mt. Oxford.
Belford & Oxford (#2 and 3 for me)
Another twofer, with Oxford.
Climbed Belford and Oxford on a bluebird day - lots of fresh fall snow!
Camped overnight south of Elkhead Pass. Climbed this with Oxford in the same day. Great views, and the weather was perfect.
Looked like Princeton and Shavano hikers were getting a downpour. Glad our rumblings of thunder didn't do much.
Wind gust knocked my daughter off her feet! Dusted off and continued on to the top. A long day.
Date is a guess, from the few years I lived in Colorado.
Those two make for a hard hike. Like almost 6k vertical?? I was exhausted coming back up the saddle.
Backpacked in to Elkhead Basin.
Both with Rhett
Fourth time up, finally made a second trip to Oxford this time. It was a windy but clear fall day, but not much snow on the trail yet.
With Megan and Katie, both 12. Camped in Missouri Gulch. Nice to catch first light from the top.
Shavano Tabeguache on Saturday, Belford and Oxford on Sunday.
