Idiot hike  Sucess!

Thought I would take a quick fall hike up a trail to an easy peak. By the time I got to Lake Christine I was in fresh snow and clouds. Instead of taking out my map and compass and orienting myself I plunged straight ahead. After a steep snow climb without an ice axe to a saddle I found myself between two snow covered, rocky peaks (peaks 5528 and 5480 east of Beljica). I thought, "Beljica doesn't have two peaks." Got my map out and figured out where I was, backtracked to the lake and up the easy southeast slope of Beljica. Went back later on the trail in summer. Much better.

Straighforward.  Sucess!

A combination of easy access, high-clearance vehicle, and a previously unvisited peak made this a no-brainer for me.

Short summit on a HOT day!  Sucess!

Road up to the trail was very rough. The hike though was easy. The views were great and the effort was very little. Now I know why parents take their children here. That being said use caution on the true summit. The dropoff here goes A LONG WAY!!
