Route Climbed: Guanella Pass Date Climbed: May 2003
A fun day hike, lots of people heading up there! Was a good social climb. Overhanging snow cornice on the south ridge near the summit was really neat! Will be back for the Sawtooth someday!
Route Climbed: West Slopes Date Climbed: January 22, 2005
Absolutely Perfect Day! This is my 3rd summit of Bierstadt, but my first winter ascent of a 14er. I picked the right day, no wind and temps in the mid 20's. Neve made the climbing easy with snowshoes. I sat on the summit for 30 minutes taking in the clearest air I have ever seen in Colorado. Pikes peak looked like it was right next door, and I could easily make out the Sangre De Cristo's!
Route Climbed: West Slopes Date Climbed: July 9, 1983
This was my first 14er after moving to CO in January 1983, and fifth overall. I did it with the CMC and have climbed it again in 1994 with my wife and two dogs and other friends. It's a great mountain, but is very crowded on the weekends now. The trail has improved over the years too, so the willows aren't as horrendous as they once were...thank you 14ers Initiative and all the trail building volunteers.
This winter ascent was my first fourteener! The snowshoe slog through the willows was a bit arduous, but once we made it past the lip it was an awesome climb! The wind was crazy through the saddle, but the peak was calm. Good times! P.S. the closest approach was from Duck Lake due to Guenella Pass' closure.
Route Climbed: West Slope and Sawtooth ridge. Date Climbed: July 2000, June 2001
Sawtooth ridge was great fun, but my favorite climb of Bierstadt was with my 59 year-old mother on the West Slopes....one year after her full knee-relpacement and her first 14er.
Route Climbed: North ridge, via Sawtooth from Mt. Evans Date Climbed: September, 1990
During the brief time I still thought that graduate school was a good idea, I took a few hours away from my studies to do a day hike from Mt. Evans. I downclimbed the Sawtooth to the saddle just below Bierstadt, and scrambled up the north ridge to the summit. It was my first Colorado 14'er. A real nifty place. I didn't want to leave.
Route Climbed: Bierstadt trail, Guanella Pass Date Climbed: June 8, 2004
What a way to start the summer! Hiked Bierstadt then took the Sawtooth over to Evans. It was awesome! My many thanks to the people who built the boardwalk over the willows!
Route Climbed: West Slopes Date Climbed: March 20, 1999
My first 14er! We drove to Guanella Pass to snowshoe, but ended up climbing Bierstadt instead. I was abit unprepared, in that I did not have enough water for the entire trip and I got very thirsty near the end.
Route Climbed: Sawtooth Ridge Date Climbed: May 11, 2002
Started from Summit Lake and ascended Mount Spaulding first, then traversed the Sawtooth Ridge all the way to the summit of Bierstadt. The Sawtooth Ridge was an awesome traverse, and this was my second time on Bierstadt.
Route Climbed: West Slopes decent via Sawtooth Date Climbed: August 22, 2004
Made it to the summit in 1:43 with a non stop push. Passed everyone on the trail that was ahead of me. We then hiked across the Sawtooth and then back down to Guanella Pass. Adding the Sawtooth decent to the hike made for a much longer and more interesting day.
Route Climbed: Standard- easiest Date Climbed: June 2004
Good beginner hike. I got to watch a newbie try glissading head first on his back and almost slam into some rocks (agains my will and while ignoring my shouting to stop) I was thinking I would have a worthy submission to "Accidents in Mountaineering 2004"
oh yeah, also the day after arriving in Denver. I live in MN
