A fun day hike, lots of people heading up there! Was a good social climb. Overhanging snow cornice on the south ridge near the summit was really neat! Will be back for the Sawtooth someday!
Nice climb for a first breath of 14er air.
Very easy hike, and little scrmbling near the summit.
I climbed it in 2:07 mins. It was great , had some snow dusting on the summit.
Absolutely Perfect Day! This is my 3rd summit of Bierstadt, but my first winter ascent of a 14er. I picked the right day, no wind and temps in the mid 20's. Neve made the climbing easy with snowshoes. I sat on the summit for 30 minutes taking in the clearest air I have ever seen in Colorado. Pikes peak looked like it was right next door, and I could easily make out the Sangre De Cristo's!
This was my first 14er after moving to CO in January 1983, and fifth overall. I did it with the CMC and have climbed it again in 1994 with my wife and two dogs and other friends. It's a great mountain, but is very crowded on the weekends now. The trail has improved over the years too, so the willows aren't as horrendous as they once were...thank you 14ers Initiative and all the trail building volunteers.
Did this one in the snow. It made it hard to follow a trail.
This winter ascent was my first fourteener! The snowshoe slog through the willows was a bit arduous, but once we made it past the lip it was an awesome climb! The wind was crazy through the saddle, but the peak was calm. Good times! P.S. the closest approach was from Duck Lake due to Guenella Pass' closure.
Sawtooth ridge was great fun, but my favorite climb of Bierstadt was with my 59 year-old mother on the West Slopes....one year after her full knee-relpacement and her first 14er.
Its never too late to start.
Great view of Gray's and Torry's. I am excited about climbing the Sawtooth Ridge sometime to access Mt. Evans.
During the brief time I still thought that graduate school was a good idea, I took a few hours away from my studies to do a day hike from Mt. Evans. I downclimbed the Sawtooth to the saddle just below Bierstadt, and scrambled up the north ridge to the summit. It was my first Colorado 14'er. A real nifty place. I didn't want to leave.
My fiance Julie and I summited on an overcast day and hiked down in the rain.
climbed with cmc. good bunch of folks. though never
saw any of them again. oh well it was a fun day.
My wife and I climbed Mount Bierstadt from Guanella pass today. High winds and snow made this a tough, but fun climb.
What a way to start the summer! Hiked Bierstadt then took the Sawtooth over to Evans. It was awesome! My many thanks to the people who built the boardwalk over the willows!
My first 14er! We drove to Guanella Pass to snowshoe, but ended up climbing Bierstadt instead. I was abit unprepared, in that I did not have enough water for the entire trip and I got very thirsty near the end.
Started from Summit Lake and ascended Mount Spaulding first, then traversed the Sawtooth Ridge all the way to the summit of Bierstadt. The Sawtooth Ridge was an awesome traverse, and this was my second time on Bierstadt.
It was a great day and an enjoyable climb.
My first Fourteener since I moved here since I moved here earlier this month!
The snow on the West Slope made for a fun and interesting climb, and the weather was great on the summit around 10am.
Made it to the summit in 1:43 with a non stop push. Passed everyone on the trail that was ahead of me. We then hiked across the Sawtooth and then back down to Guanella Pass. Adding the Sawtooth decent to the hike made for a much longer and more interesting day.
Good beginner hike. I got to watch a newbie try glissading head first on his back and almost slam into some rocks (agains my will and while ignoring my shouting to stop) I was thinking I would have a worthy submission to "Accidents in Mountaineering 2004"
oh yeah, also the day after arriving in Denver. I live in MN
Easy 1:50 minute hike. My girl friends second peak.
