summit of the year for me. Rainy at the TH but cleared up. Sean and I were the first to reach the summit before the conga line to the top ensued

Late winter ascent
Beautiful day between two snow storms. First 14er. Skied up until 13,000ft, then climbed the rest, used crampons to get back down to where we left the skis. Except me and my buddy, not a single living soul in sight. Great time!

Late winter solo
On a Sunday in late winter I was surprised to find so few people. It was a beautiful, cold and peaceful hike. It was just me and my thoughts all day.

Busy peak; completed on a side trip from California
I got a bit of a late start after my drive up from Denver at about 9 am. Fortunately the weather was good and made the summit in good time. Busy place with perhaps 200 climbers and maybe more. Excellent view and glad i took the time to climb this peak.

Standard in Winter
Winter ascent with Gabe and his pup. The road is plowed to just above the Guanella Pass campground at around 10,900'.

From Winter Parking
While blessedly sunny and clear, it was incredibly cold this day. Fortunately, the trail was pretty well packed but we still snowshoed until just below the saddle. The snow leaving the saddle was total hardpack - you could kick steps about 1-2 inches deep, and that's all the purchase you would get. It was beyond cold this day. Temps were in the single digits and windchill was WELL below zero. Not much celebrating on the summit: Take a few more bites of food and a sip of water and descend. I didn't even bother signing the summit register - just walked right past it. I just wanted out of that bitter cold wind.
This mountain is a sweet little teddy bear of a hike in the summer, but a formidable foe in winter conditions from the lower parking area. Hiking partners: Ricardo's CMC outing.

good warm-up 14er
my second time hiking this 14er; a good way to warm up to start off the season to hike other 14ers! guanella pass rd construction is a bit annoying, but oh well...
Solo from Guanella to Bierstadt then on to Evans via the Sawtooth.

Any Route
This I have climbed more than any other, at least 15 times. It is closest to were I grew up. It is a good ski descent in winter and a good snow climb, fairly low avalanche danger.
Wanted to climb the East ridge and connect to evans via sawtooth from evans road, but surpsisingly the road was closed. Resorted to climbing standard route along with the multitudes of others.

Standard route from Guanella
We got up early enough to be in the first "batch" of summitters, but not early enough to avoid the mobs of other hikers on our descent. Still, it's good to see so many people out getting exercise, especially families with kids and teens. Partner: Husband.

Had the summit all to myself at 6:30 a.m. prior to traversing the Sawtooth and summiting Evans. Great climb on a beautiful day.

Crowded
Hiked with Boy Scout Troop. Beat the storm coming in. I never can figure out the people who start late and keep going up when the clouds are rolling in. I figure they got soaked.

Got one, no sawtooth
We were after the combo and the sawtooth but Marni and Turbo weren't liking the snow cover and we backed off back up Bierstadt. Still a nice hike and a few little glissades on the way down.
